چکیده

Abstract Experiments are carried out on the laboratory-scale MICCA-Spray annular combustor to examine effects of swirlers combustion instabilities. This system comprises 16 spray-swirl injectors and gives rise instabilities coupled by azimuthal modes. Five types producing clockwise rotation varying in swirl numbers pressure drops considered. These can be broadly categorized into two groups: lower-swirl higher-swirl groups, based their numbers. An arrangement where counterclockwise alternate is also studied. performed systematically with liquid heptane at five levels thermal power six equivalence ratios. Results reveal that none category exhibit instability operating region considered, whereas units feature strong trace an overall limit cycle envelope a few short random bursts. Among group, higher drop swirler associated broader map. shows transition mainly depends number through its effect flame structure adds further variations amplitude frequency oscillation. The spin ratio time series indicate modes mixed type distribution condition. On specifically comparing between full set rotating (CR) configuration (CCR) alternatively placed, it found there no definite statistical preference for linked bulk swirl. In some cases, however, CCR promotes ratios centered around standing mode (sr = 0) while CR setup favors spinning direction. attempt made interpret occurrence making use describing functions (FDFs) measured single-injector combustor. Acoustic Instabilities on Swirling Flames

The POD makes possible to reduce the complete highdimensional acoustic field to a low-dimensional subspace where different modes are identified and let reconstruct in a simple way a high percentage of the variance of the field. Rotating modes are instabilities which are commonly observed in swirling flows. Such modes can appear under both cold and reacting conditions but that they have differen...

Massively parallel LES of azimuthal thermo- acoustic instabilities in annular gas turbines

Most of the energy produced worldwide comes from the combustion of fossil fuels. In the context of global climate changes and dramatically decreasing resources, there is a critical need for optimizing the process of burning, especially in the field of gas turbines. Unfortunately, new designs for efficient combustion are prone to destructive thermo-acoustic instabilities. Large Eddy Simulation (...

Swirling Combustor Energy Converter: H2/Air Simulations of Separated Chambers

This work reports results related to the “EU-FP7-HRC-Power” project aiming at developing micro-meso hybrid sources of power. One of the goals of the project is to achieve surface temperatures up to more than 1000 K, with a ∆T ≤ 100 K, in order to be compatible with a thermal/electrical conversion by thermo-photovoltaic cells. The authors investigate how to reach that goal adopting swirling cham...

DNS of droplet evaporation and combustion in a swirling combustor

Turbulent multi-phase combustion is encountered in a number of engineering applications, such as internal combustion engines and gas-turbine aircraft engines. Therefore, the ability to perform accurate numerical simulations of these systems is of paramount importance to improve their design and efficiency. However, the underlying physics of spray combustion are extremely complicated. The liquid...

Systems Characterization of Combustor Instabilities With Controls Design Emphasis NASA

This effort performed test data analysis in order to characterize the general behavior of combustor instabilities with emphasis on controls design. The analysis is performed on data obtained from two configurations of a laboratory combustor rig and from a developmental aero-engine combustor. The study has characterized several dynamic behaviors associated with combustor instabilities. These are...
